In Punjabi weddings, the chore and kaleera ceremony holds a cultural and religious significance for the bride-to-be.
Both ceremonies are held on the morning of the wedding day at the Bride's place. Traditionally a set of 21 bangles in assorted colours are selected by the Bride's maternal aunt and uncle. A purification of the bangles happens with milk and rose petals. The chorus are put on the Bride's wrist by all her close relatives. Thereafter, the wrist is covered by a white cloth as the Bride cannot see her chorus till the time of the wedding ceremony.
The custom churas can be worn for a minimum of 45 days after the wedding. Some brides wear their chorus even up to a year of marriage.
